HERA PHERI IS A REMAKE OF A REMAKE!!

Hera Pheri is not one of but is the most hilarious comedy movie that we have ever come across. The movie being ranked on 4th number on the list of Bollywood comedies with 8.3 IMDb rating seems so underrated. 21 years past, and the world of internet is just so full of Baburao/ Hera Pheri memes. A Hera Pheri meme a day keeps the stress away!

But did you know, the movie is not original. It is a remake of Ramji Rao Speaking, a Malayalam language movie from 1989 directed by Siddique-Lal duo. The movie was first remade in Tamil by Fazil. Then in Hindi as Hera Pheri by Priyadarshan. The movie has 3 more remakes; 'Dhanalakshmi I love you' in Telugu, 'Trin Trin' in Kannada and 'Wrong Number' in Oriya. Furthermore, the sequel to Ramji Rao speaking that is 'Manar Mathai Speaking' was remade in Hindi as an independent movie 'Bhagambhag'.

The movie Ramji Rao Speaking itself was based on an English Language Thriller 'See the man run' (1971). The plot of ransom call on a wrong number was the basis of adaptation. Who knew that a thriller movie adaptation into a comedy would give birth to such a gem like Hera Pheri!
